This week we discuss doing research on the company you want to approach for sponsorship. It is very important you know as much about the company as possible, this shows you truly want to do business with them and you are willing to take the time to make sure their interests are considered.
Here we go!
- What has the company done, in the past, for advertising? Do they resort to the typical advertising, such as newspapers, tv ads, etc? Or do they think outside the box and advertise on pace cars, race cars…not your typical advertising.
- Have they sponsored race cars in the past? Have they sponsored race tracks/divisions? If so, this shows they have an interest in the sport and know more than the average company.
- Look for unique, non-traditional ways to sell the product or service. You can still provide the standard stuff, like car shows, stickers on the car, name on the suit, but be different, stand out from the thousands of others out there looking for sponsorship dollars.
- Look at what they use, if any, for social media sites and forums. If they do not use any, this is your opportunity to really help get their name out there. For every “tweet” or Facebook posting you make with the company name…the more their name gets out there and the better their chances of making money happens. Offer this to every company you make contact with and make sure you follow through.
By knowing more than the basic information about a company, the better your chances are of getting them to sponsor you. If you have taken the time to research them, it shows them you do care and are very serious about their company.
Keep up the good work, we are almost there. Next week we will discuss more research-STATS!
